Old Theories Still work
The shellfish in the harbour can be compared to in the old days of the “Canary down the Mines”. Canaries were kept in cages and when they fell and collapsed in their cages, the miners realised that the air was contaminated and evacuated the mine shafts immediately before the air they were breathing failed to support their bodies.
It’s the same in the harbour with shellfish. They are the best way of monitoring the health of the harbour. If the shellfish beds die off or the shellfish become unhealthy and / or die it indicates the water quality is not supportive to their existence.
This confirms ‘Save Our Harbour’ philosophy of
Healthy Harbour = (Healthy shellfish) = Healthy People.
